MOOD SWINGS

MOOD SWINGS?

Besides being the obvious side effect to a hormonal outburst, ‘Mood Swings’ is an editorial crafted by our editor Jay Tee, alongside contributions from the JTGA team. It’s like a series of extended tweets, ranting or raving about something terrible / great that has happened in the world of gaming.

It’s a collection of random musings designed to provide a snapshot of what we’re doing, things you should be excited for, and stuff to avoid as you navigate the choppy waters of this wonderfully unpredictable hobby.

Anything, from reactions to a new game announcement, surprising breaking news, to our cat just nibbled our thumb sticks, can be found here. Each “Mood Swing” will be tagged with either a green, yellow, or red Tarp badge. This represents a visual indicator of our reaction.

DRAWN TO OKAY BYE - Sony announced today that Drawn to Death multiplayer servers are being shut down in March 2019. It’s a smart, decisive move, as the community has dwindled and the studio behind it no longer exists. PlayStation Network servers have long been criticised for their poor stability and inconsistent performance, so by trimming the fat, Sony are making steps to course correct in meaningful ways. Obviously, it’s always a shame when a team is disbanded (as we’ve seen with Telltale) but this decision makes sense. - JAY TEE

I really wanted to like this game. On paper (pardon the pun) it sounded great. But, crucially, it just wasn’t fun.

SNEAKY MELTAN - After a series of cheeky data miners outed a new legendary Pokémon, Meltan has been officially unveiled. And he is as charmingly absurd as you’d expect. However, I think there’s a real opportunity here for The Pokémon Company to take the Smash Bros. approach to revealing future characters. The official trailer for Meltan’s arrival was an in-universe chat between two characters. It lacked fanfare or hype, and felt almost insignificant. These announcements should offer an air of mystery and excitement! - JAY TEE

SORT YOUR PRIORITIES - Today’s statement from Telltale re: the final season of The Walking Dead is exciting to me as a fan of that series. But honestly, I’d have much preferred they address how they’re handling severance and health coverage for their employees. Or, perhaps acknowledge their management failings and look for ways to help their loyal former team members find new jobs, or attempt some kind of buyout or takeover to save the company. The priority here should be the people, not the games. - JAY TEE

DRAWN TO DEATH (PS4)

He’s cute. But where’s the hype?!

MELTAN

Clem’s story is worth finishing, and I’d love to see how it ends, but not at the expense of the people who made it possible.
